Blue Marlin and Pictures

I thought I might show some pictures of last nights meal. I am trying to improve on my photo taking skills with the meals I cook. I am trying to take pictures like the ones you see in the cook books, you know the ones that make you drool when you look at them and say I got to try that. I like to look at the photos in cookbooks because for me it is the photo that sells the recipe.

Here is last nights meal..............
Photobucket
This is blue marlin (blue marlin is fish in case you are drawing a blank) marinated in cranberry walnut vinaigrette along with roasted vegetables and grilled lettuce topped with parmesan/reggianno cheese and of course the same vinaigrette the blue marlin was marinated in.

Why blue marlin? Well, we were walking through the store yesterday and when we went by the fresh fish display it started to call my name. Every now and then this happens to me when I am in the grocery store. When it does I take it as a hint I should buy the item and give it a try, so I do.

Here is a little closer look and a lower angle. What do you think? Does it make you hungry? Does it make you want to try it?

How about this one..............

Is that a better picture? Great grill marks. But I think I know what is wrong, not enough contrast in colors. It was a small head of lettuce so the green of the lettuce got buried under the fish and vegetables. I think I should have used green peppers instead of red too. That would have given a better contrast of colors. Maybe even using a orange or yellow pepper or maybe a combination of all. I know a plate can make a picture too but when this is all you got this is what you use.

But if I saw this picture in a cook book would I say I got to try that? I'm not sure but I can tell you it was very good. Blue Marlin is a white meat fish with a very mild flavor. If you are looking to do fish steaks on the grill and you don't think you like the stronger flavor of tuna give the blue marlin a try. Just be careful because with all meat with very little of no fat it will dry out very quickly if you over cook it.

I should mention the onion used in this meal was a candy onion we bought at the Elk Hart Lake farmers market yesterday. Very mild once grilled and very sweet.

And if you run out and cook blue marlin this week then maybe I have accomplished my goal.

A True American (Opps I Mean Canadian) Hero

Every now and then I think we should honor our heroes and give them the due they deserve. Without them where would we be? We use them for inspiration, we use them for guidance, and we use them for the infinite wisdom. This is the case with one of my true heroes. I can't think of anybody with more wisdom, inspiration, and guidance then this person. I hope you enjoy his wisdom and and may he guide you through life.

His name, Red Green, I hope you enjoyed his infinite wisdom. If you are going to watch a couple of these clips I suggest the first and the forth. Red Green gives some of his best advice in these clips.

So to honor this true hero (at least to middle aged men with no life) I am going to add a page element to the right side for you to view. I will change it once a week or so until I run out of clips on YouTube.

A Trip in the Way Back Machine

Let's take a trip tonight in the way back machine (anybody remember where the way back machine comes from?). We aren't going to go to far back. We will only travel back a month or so to the day after peej's open house. Everybody remember that day, the real party, the day we cooked ribs and got to drink beer from all over the country? Good.

We got a problem, you see some pictures showed up on my camera and I don't know where they came from. Let's see if we can figure this out.
Photobucket
There now we know it wasn't me and we also know it wasn't Katie since I see her in the background.
Photobucket
Pretty much takes care of dad too. And I can see mom and Scott in the background.
Photobucket
Oh oh now I know peej didn't take them.
Photobucket
Takes care of Marv and Joni.
Photobucket
And Shae too.
Photobucket
We can eliminate these two characters now.
Photobucket
There is a purple dress behind Marv so I believe that eliminates Sarah.

Hmm now who does that leave? Dino?
Photobucket
Got to be, he is the only one that doesn't show up in the pictures. I need to start giving him more credit because I didn't think he knew how to turn on the camera let alone take a picture.

Maybe I shouldn't complain the last person I know that left his camera unattended ended up with a full moon shot on his camera and I'm not talking about the one in the sky. And it wasn't pretty.
