How Ever Painful We Must Continue On

Without a federal bailout coming anytime soon from the government it looks as though the Detroit Lions are on their own to the end of this dismal season. It's like watching your stock investments for the last three months you know there isn't any good news and you know they are going to continue to fall but for some reason you just continue to watch and watch. It's kind of like watching a train wreck about to happen you know you shouldn't but you can't turn away. It's like that with the Lions these days. What reasons are there to keep watching? You know they are just going to loose again this weekend it's just a matter of by how they loose and by how much. There are certainly a whole league of better teams and games to watch but like a bad habit I keep turning the channel back to the lions. I guess you can call this my crack habit and I just can't kick it.

Today the Lions play the Minnesota Vikings at home before another less than full stadium. The last time the Lions played the Vikings they got ripped off by the officials with three real bad calls against them. Does it matter any more? Nope and it won't help today either. The Vikings are fighting for their playoff lives and can't afford to have a let down against the lowly Lions. If the Vikings weren't in the playoff hunt I would pick the Lions today. I also think this is the Lions last chance to win a game this year so the Lions will come out and play hard. This could be possibly be the best game of the year for the Lions but in the end Adrian Peterson will prove to much for them and the Vikings will prevail 31-17. The Lions will be 0-13 and on their way to historical football futility. They will finish 0-16 and be forever remembered at the worse team ever in the NFL until another team accomplishes the same feat, which will take years. Go Lions.

Let's talk Heisman Trophy race. My Heisman list is as follows:

1. Colt McCoy - Texas
2. Tim Tebow - Florida
3. Sam Bradford - Oklahoma
4. Gramham Harrel - Texas Tech

That's how I would vote if I had a vote. Gramham Harrel is a good quarterback but I still think he is a product of a system. Texas Tech has had other good quarterbacks and none of them have gone on to the NFL and had any success (and no the Lions haven't drafted any of them). Sam Bradford is a great quarterback but I believe he is only a sophomore and only one sophomore has ever won the Heisman. And speaking about sophomores to win the Heisman the only one to do it was Tim Tebow last year. It's hard not to vote for Tebow because he is the sole reason the Gators are going to the National Championship game. This guy is tough and wills his team to win. I think we may be watching one of the all time greats to ever play college football right now. Plus I think he has his crap together along with his entire family. He is a great individual. But if I had a vote I would vote Colt McCoy for the Heisman this year. He is another quarterback that because of him the team is where it is at. Texas has one loss and that was a last second loss to Texas Tech. I think Colt McCoy has been the most consistent college football player this year and I think that is what the Heisman is about. It's not about the best player in the beginning of the season or the best at the end of the season it's about the best player throughout the season. I'm not sure Colt McCoy will win the Heisman because he didn't get to play on the national stage like Tim Tebow or Sam Bradford yesterday but I still think he the most deserving.

My final top 5 is as follows:

1. Texas
2. Florida
3. Oklahoma
4. USC
5. Alabama

I think is should be Texas and Florida in the national championship but it is going to be Oklahoma and Florida. We will save that discussion for another day.

I don't see how you can put anyone ahead of Oklahoma. I know Texas beat them, but I mean come on - they are absolutely unstoppable. I hate them, because I hate Stoops, but still...I can't see anyone beating them again.

Lions played good just not good enough.

I put Texas on top because before yesterday's game they deserved to be ranked ahead of Oklahoma they beat them fair and square on a natural field. I also know Texas Tech beat Texas but I really believe if they played each other 10 times Texas would win 8 of the games. I don't feel the same way about Oklahoma being able to beat Texas like that.

I'm not sure the Big 12 offenses are that good or their defenses are that bad. We will find out in the national championship game when they play Florida. Florida has a good defense and good offense.
